The Fish Were Biting Bruh! Friday, June 01 2012

There are some things I just don't understand about men.

It's no big secret that the Y chromosome often manifests itself in the most irritating ways to us ladies.

Don't get me wrong, I am fully aware that coping with the wrath that is a woman's hormonal roller-coaster, is by no means a vacation in the Keys, but where's the fun in bitching about that?...

And I really don't want to bitch about guys either...I mean, the men in my life have been for the most part supportive and kind and they know how to tie knots and change flat tires and stuff so I really shouldn't complain...but I will a little anyway.

One thing that is a recurring “discussion” in our household is how Mark really wants me to get into whatever he's into.

I mean, I get it, he wants to include me and wants me to share his passion for something, which is really considerate and just plain nice....BUT, really, there's no point in explaining to me the details of where the fish were biting yesterday.....at that cut, by the Indian mounds, where the current goes a certain way, and the tide is going out when it's 2 o’clock where the birds are diving and James said T-Brown caught em on a chartreuse beetle......ya know what I mean?

Again, I get it, he just wants me to share his excitement with him, BUT as I've tried to explain to him after my less then interested reaction perturbs him, I explain to him that that is the same uninspired reaction I get from him when I force him the watch the best, most moving, most tear-jerking dance audition from the previous night's So You Think You Can Dance Season 9 episode...but, to no avail.

We just keep doing the same dance, but to a different tune.

However, I do realize that I am partly to blame for this phenomena.

In our courting months, I do recall putting on quite an enthusiastic show when he would go on and on and on about his fishing adventures...which he is quick to remind me of whenever, now, my eyes start rolling. ( I may have falsely led him to believe that I actually liked the taste of Schlitz....but that's a whole other story!).

But, in my defense, isn't that what courting is all about? Pretending you're interested in whatever the other one is talking about...then pretend how your “drama-less” and “baggage-free”...then make out and do it all over again?

In any case, I don't foresee these fishing stories getting any less frequent and any less lengthy, but that's ok.

What's important is that it's coming from a good place, from the heart and with good intention.

That's why we love them.

That's why we keep them around.

This is not me. It's Donna Reed. But this is what I look like in my head when I'm just sitting around in my living room.

Amen. Amen. Amen. I can also add to the fishing stories the details he gives me about his Harley...and everyone elses Harley. I remind myself that it's great he has his own "hobbies".
