You could say that my second born, Luke, is a little high strung.

He regularly needs to run wild in the great outdoors to keep him from climbing the walls and/or our piano.

He's just a compact little ball of pure and unadulterated energy.

This can sometimes pose a problem at bedtime....

I'm just going to go ahead and preface this post by explaining something to you all.

Mark was raised on a farm in Bayou Lafourche.

He was raised with cows and horses and his grandmother who'd go in the back and cut the chickens' neck so they'd have food for dinner.

He and I both share the idea that we want our kids to understand where food comes from;that it's not necessarily produced in some magical factory (even though most of the stuff these days is).

We want them to know the honest to God truth about how food, and in this case, meat, goes from living things to something we eat.

Then they can make their own decisions on how they feel about it.

There are some things we prefer not to sugar coat too much...and this is one of them.

I think my sister is telepathic.

We live thousands of miles apart, and still she can somehow sense I need a little pick-me-up and sends something my way to make me laugh.

We have shared many things (well sometimes she wasn’t sharing but I'de just pretend she was anyway). But, one thing I can always rely on is our shared sense of humor....

Wherein I Fail Miserably Wednesday, May 22 2013

A few days after Festival International I was feeling pretty crappy to say the least. I felt like old rum was coursing through my veins instead of blood and my head was caught somewhere in between consciousness and that place where stuff that shouldn’t make sense does.

So what do I decide to do?...

One Chapter Ends Monday, May 20 2013

These past few weeks have been a little chaotic. With the Blue Moon expanding and the clothing line coming to life, it sort of feels like the days have no beginning and no end.

Until Friday, when Joseph's pre-school had their yearly mother's tea where all the moms come to school and sit at pretty tables prepared by the children, have tea and treats, and watch the kids sing songs...

So it just occurred to me that my kids think I do nothing all day long.

It occurred to me when, yesterday when we were having lunch, I asked Emmylou what she wanted to do when she grew up and she answered, ''Nothing! Just like you!''..

And Bayou Gauche Is Born Tuesday, May 07 2013

This week is a huge week.

Right at this minute, my top, my design, 3 years of my blood, sweat, and tears is actually hanging in a real live store.

As of now you can buy Bayou Gauche* by Nicole LeBlanc at Kiki in River Ranch, Lafayette, Louisiana...

Post Festival Blues Tuesday, April 30 2013

(I wrote this post yesterday but only got around to posting it today because...well....Sailor Jerry was still lingering aroud!)

It's definitely the Monday after festival.

Rod Stewart has taken over my voice and I feel like belting out Hot Legs is the only thing left to do.

Heaven Off Of I-10 Wednesday, April 17 2013

You guys!

I found heaven and it's at exit 88 off of I-10W across the street from the Dairy Queen!

And by heaven I mean, of course, a place where there are jars and jars of candy, home-made fudge and ice cream...

Blogging has been a godsend.

Not only has it allowed me to tap into my pre-changing shitty diapers self and connect with that creative side that had taken a hiatus, but it has also opened me up to a whole new world of networking and connecting to people.

One thing I really hadn’t thought about when I started nicochic.com is that people might seek me out to advertise their stuff.

I get some requests here and there, but I try not to over-do it on product reviews and such because it can become a little underwhelming to read.

However...

And Then There Was 8 Thursday, April 04 2013

Boo,

Today we have been married for 8 years.

8 years ago we were standing on a beach at sunset, just you and I (and the officiate who was wearing that tacky fish shirt..remember?), committing to a life together.

I was 24 years old and I was diving in, a tad naive I have to admit, but hungry to get this show on the road..

It's the day after Good Friday.

How do I follow up a day of eating copious amounts of crawfish and decadent chocolate cream pie?

I bake a cake of course...

Joseph, The King Of Comebacks! Thursday, March 28 2013

Joseph and Luke are at an age now where they play hard but also fight just as hard.

Meaning one minute everything is fine and the next minute one of them has the other in a headlock.

Bear in mind that Joseph is 4 and Luke is 6.

This makes for interesting fights. And although the physical ones are mildly amusing but mostly just annoying, it's the verbal accosting that is highly entertaining.

And don't let Joseph's short existence fool you. That little boy would put any heckler to shame...

My son asked me the other day what a sweet tooth was so I opened my mouth and I said, “See all those white things in my mouth? Each and every one of them is a sweet tooth.”

Clearly not understanding my brilliant use of wit (4 year olds, ugh!), I explained to him the real meaning. And he was like “Oh.” and then continued to torture Pistache.

All that nonsense to say that I love sweets.

Let me rephrase that, if it were the apocalypse tomorrow, instead of gathering family photos and computer hard drives, I'd be scouring the pantry to make sure I rescue every last bag of Cadbury mini eggs I've been hoarding for the past 3 weeks.

However, I also really like to fit my ass in my skinny jeans so there has to be compromise somewhere.

At the end of a healthy meal, I like a pop of sweet and it helps if that pop of sweet is somewhat “healthy”.

So I was very pleased to come across this next recipe (I saw it on The Chew.)...

My daughter loves to read.

I love to sleep.

This poses a problem at bedtime...

Hey Ladies Monday, March 04 2013

It's not too often that Emmylou and I get time alone together.

Sometimes it's nice to get a reprieve from on demand burps, fart jokes, samurai ninja plotted attacks and stinky feet...aka Joseph and Luke.

So yesterday morning, the ladies of the house...meaning myself, Emmylou and of course Pistache, took a little time for ourselves...
