I'm Convinced My Kids Are F&$#!*ing With Me! Thursday, September 27 2012

So if you don't know this already, I'm going to explain it to you now.

Kids are unpredictable.

You can pretend to know how little Lucy is going to react when she figures out THAT's how babies are made or how little Billy is going to act when he realizes Barney likes to drink beer and smoke cigarettes after the show...but really, you're foolin' yourself...

Another fact about kids: they often act inappropriately.

Let's take, for instance, the other day when I decided that my haircut needed a little tweaking. I texted my hairdresser and she graciously told me she could spare 10 minutes if I came right now. Not really knowing what my husband was doing (although if I were to guess, I'd say he was probably fixing a toilet somewhere or looking for his keys..or his phone) I decided to load all three kids and head to the salon.

Not a good idea.

After the kids finished eating the entire bowl of complimentary mints they decided it would be fun to use the pile of cut hair on the floor as confetti, throwing it on each-other while they twirled round and round in the neighboring salon chairs...after which they decided it would be fun to play with the timers..specially the ones that were broken and would get jammed on the buzzer setting.

Good times.

But the best (worse) part of this story is that about an hour later, I brought them to Downtown Alive (music concert in downtown Lafayette, LA), where acting like a complete and utter fool is completely acceptable..where twirling around and dancing in circles is recommended and hootin' and hollerin' is encouraged...

….. and this is what they decide to do.

Quietly catch up on their reading.

Mindfully document the evening in picture form.

And peacefully play with their gum.

I swear, they do it on purpose!

This is not me. It's Donna Reed. But this is what I look like in my head when I'm just sitting around in my living room.
